released 2018, Virgin EMI.
First off, please be aware that Nadine Coyle is my favorite ex-Girls Aloud member, and that Girls Aloud are quite possibly my favorite girl group of all time.
I eat this shit up and I can’t lie.
After a relatively low-key (read:tesco tier flop) debut album with 2010’s 『Insatiable』, and a short-lived Aloud reunion in 2012, the power vocalist of the girls has launched her solo career again with a better direction and a bigger budget it seems.
『Girls on fire』is the second in a series of singles leading up to what I hopefully believe to be a full album from one of my favorite singers of all time, and it doesn’t let me down. It’s very bombastic and Nadine wastes no time belting that chorus out.
I’d also like to take a moment and acknowledge the opening verse’s “Look at our hips moving like they don’t know how to be straight”. It’s a brilliant lyric and sets up the camp factor for the rest of the duration. My only gripe is that bass through the verses sounds a bit cheesy and the bridge doesn’t exactly impress, this doesn’t detract from the overall experience.
With two really fun singles under this era’s belt, I’m excited to hear what Coyle serves me with the upcoming third single 『Gossip』. I’m happy that she’s doing this her way, music charts be damned! The girl can do no wrong in my eyes, but I’m trying to be objective guys.
