【review/rate】jerry paper / like a baby

released 2018, stones throw.

Jerry Paper’s latest album release is one that has left an impression on me, one that I almost couldn’t come up with words to describe.  It’s like Steely Dan and catchy elevator music from a planet outside of our solar system matched on Tinder and ended up in a cross-galaxy relationship.  There’s a fabulous marriage of multiple styles across the record, everything from lounge and bossa nova to 60’s rock and classic synthpop, and no single song outstays its welcome (the longest track is just shy over three and a half minutes).

I actually found this to be another strong point, as every song feels like an earworm or after hours boob tube television jingle (have you ever stayed up late, caught a strange commercial with equally strange music that ended up soundtracking a wild night of dreams?). Mind you, I’ve only had this LP for a day and I can’t get most of the songs out of my head!  At its core, “Like a Baby” is strategic and soulful pop: excellent across the board, and full of tracks that you won’t soon forget.

Must-Listen : Losing the game, Your cocoon, A moment, Baby
(these are the standouts for me, immensely catchy!)
Skip : None immediately spring to mind.  This is a great album from front to back with no real weak links across the tracklist.
