【review/rate】luby sparks / (i’m) lost in sadness

released 2018, awdr/lr2

Luby Sparks released their first EP earlier this month, a delightful smorgasbord of classic dreamy tracks that showcase their far-from-average songwriting and range. Clocking in just shy of 25 minutes, there’s no room for mediocrity or filler here, and Lost in Sadness excels with its four songs that all bring something different and unique to the table.

Shades of Cocteau Twins are painted across the visage of “Cherry Red Dress”, but only enough for you to recognize the influence and pay it where it’s due, while “Look on Down from the Bridge” is a 2018 twist on a Mazzy Star deep cut for the Spotify generation. (Listen to original if you haven’t though while you’re at it!!)

Luby Sparks have had a spectacularly solid year, with not only their first full length but even this EP being two of the top releases of 2018. You would do well to keep them on your radar.
