Forgive me forgive me! A bitch been busy, as they say, and April hasn't exactly been the most exciting month for music "IMO". Anywho, here's a little catch up post to get us back in the groove. Kevin Abstract released a single, then an EP a few days later in true brockhampton fashion. Listen to... Continue Reading →
Some tragic news came my way this week as I learned that prolific vocaloid producer Wowaka (also of the band hitorie) passed in his sleep of acute heart failure April 5th. He will he missed, and his music will continue to live on with us. https://youtu.be/v36KMdiWHao
Or in this case, "25th anniversay". COTD are not a regularly performing group, so don't miss out on a chance to see them if you're in Japan, especially for an anniversary! Can't believe their debut LP is as old as I am.
Who keeps inviting Jay-Z to these things? While there are some solid choices here, (Robert Plant's ironic billing 50 years after Led Zeppelin turned down the original event) most of these acts just feel like a culmination of the last few years of the festival circuit. It's a bit....uninspired? I don't know, maybe i'm getting... Continue Reading →
That's it. That's the story. One of the most beloved bands of the 90's J-alt scene is getting back together for a one off performance at the Rising Sun Festival 2019 (with possible tour/further activity to follow!), and I couldn't be more excited. It's also pretty hilarious that vocalist Mukai Shutoku literally admitted that this... Continue Reading →
Hiroshi Nakamura's jazz/lounge/j-pop hybrid lovechild "i-dep" has been dead for the last 10 years, but Nakamura has announced on his Facebook that the unit will resume activities (with original lineup members as well!) this year, beginning with a live show on March 8th with Hubert Lenoir! This is a fantastic event, and I really hope... Continue Reading →
Oh yeah baby. Czecho are doing a ten date tour in the summer to support a new EP they'll be releasing and I cannot wait. Hoping we get a single soon or something!
Dr. Usui's (recently of Otocompo and XXX of WONDER) longtime electronic retro-pop unit Motocompo's underrated 2007 LP "Chiptop Lips" has been reissued with four bonus tracks! Make sure to pick it up, this is one of the more obscure gems of the late 2000s j-tek boom. Purchase on CDJapan!
It's been quite some time since we last heard anything from Hootie and the Blowfish, but today we've got word that they're returning from their decade+ hiatus for a new tour and album release in 2019! More info and dates on the original article here. The Houston date is June 14, locals take note! (and... Continue Reading →
In what could possibly be the wildest music chart event of the year, the black sheep of Mariah Carey's discography, conceptual 1980's disco pop LP "Glitter" (that also doubled as the soundtrack for Carey's critically maligned box-office failure companion film) has shot up the iTunes charts in multiple countries across the world for virtually no...
